Bend Testing Services

Hurst Metallurgical Research Laboratory provides ISO/IEC 17025 accredited bend testing services for metallic materials and welded assemblies. Bend testing is commonly used to evaluate ductility, soundness, and the ability of a material or weld to withstand deformation without cracking or failure.

What is Bend Testing?

Bend testing evaluates a material's ability to plastically deform under a controlled bending force without cracking or fracturing. It is widely used to assess material ductility, verify weld quality, and demonstrate compliance with industry specifications.

Depending on the applicable standard, specimens may be bent to a specified angle or around a specified mandrel diameter before being visually examined for cracks or other discontinuities.

Testing Standards

Hurst performs bend testing in accordance with recognized industry standards, including:

  • ASTM E190 – Guided Bend Test for Ductility of Welds

  • ASTM E290 – Bend Testing of Material for Ductility

  • AWS welding specifications
